NATURAL HAIR GOALS FOR 2021

TYPE 4 HAIR GOALS TO CHASE IN 2021 FOR GROWTH OF HEALTHY HAIR

Being a Natural hair blogger I should be regularly setting goals for my hair. But to be honest I have been more reserved and not doing much my hair. I have noticed the changes with my natural hair but still going with the flow in all honesty. And maybe due to being in a pandemic and numerous lockdowns in the UK has affected me overall.

I’m just trying to stay positive with all that is going on, and trying not to get overwhelmed with all the not so good things right now. But I guess because I have not been doing too much with my hair, in a good way it has helped with how it is right now. I would say my natural hair overall is in good condition and is still growing, lol.

But thinking about it more, I would like to set some hair goals. I will be honest to say I have not measured how long my hair is for a very long time. And feel not to do this as my hair is not straight, but coily (curly). And I don’t want to get into the habit of trying to measure my hair regular and getting caught up and stressed out if I don’t see any changes. And I will say it takes time and work to get my hair to a straightened state to see the proper length. And my hair just reverts very quickly so it doesn’t stay straight for long, especially due to humidity and if my head is hot, shrinkage happens. I style my hair in curly hairstyles, mainly twistouts and braidouts because of this my hair is in plaits/braids for a few days to get the desired curly look.

I can visually see growth in my hair when I plait my hair or put it in twists when styling my hair infront of the mirror. The front of my hair that could be turned into a fringe is now touching my chin, before it would reach above my lips.

Memories of during lockdown one and being stressed about my affected edges due to heat damage, and taking pictures everyday and getting anxious because I didn’t see any good improvements, and just looked like it was getting worse everytime I looked at the area. Which I wrote about more in Lockdown, and how it has affected my natural hair post.

Anyways my natural hair goals for 2021 are –

LENGTH RETENTION GOAL

Of course I would like to retain length of my natural hair, and not to lose any length drastically. I would not be happy if this was to happen. And I only trim my hair when needed. And looking after my ends when combing and styling my hair.

I did create post on the ways to retain length on natural hair, which is a very useful read.

STOP DOING THESE THINGS TO YOUR NATURAL HAIR EVERYDAY

HEALTHY HAIR GOAL

I will continue to keep up a good hair care routine with my natural hair and even improve it. To continue to have healthy strong hair and as I have said many times ” Healthy hair leads to healthy hair growth“.

HAIR GROWTH GOAL

I would like to continue to have hair growth, by keeping up with good hair practices and not going wild when trimming my hair like how I used to before few years ago.

I remember the times I would cut upto 2 inches of my hair off in one go. Now what I do is the dusting end technique when needed. The dusting ends technique is when you notice your ends are not the best and just cut when needed just a centimetre or more.

I will commit to only taking off up to 1 inch of my hair when I trim my hair. The last time I trimmed my hair was late 2020.

I remember when watching trimming hair videos and cutting hair videos, and thinking why is she only cutting off so little of hair, when I was used to taking off up to 2 inches. Later on I understood the process, and that you don’t have to cut of so much hair. I’m slow sometimes, and it can take me a little time to fully understand, and fully get the process. But BINGO when I got it, I realised because I was cutting of what could be looked a big amount, it would then take longer to see hair growth. I will say my hair is much healthier now than how it was couple years ago. And when I was cutting my hair last year, I was trimming of less than before.

These goals might not be specific with numbers, but this is what I want to commit to. And I just want to enjoy my natural hair journey.
