So lets get into what I did to grow my hair in 2020

DEEP CONDITIONING

I make sure I deep condition my hair every wash day, and in the middle of 2020 I started to deep condition my hair without heat. I experienced heat damage on my hair. I will talk about this in a future blog. So you don’t necessary need added heat to deep condition your hair.

HEAT

Minus when I used to use heat when deep conditioning my hair. I have not used heat to style my hair hair for a very long time. I alway make my hair dry without heat, calling air drying. And this year I am really seeing the curl pattern of my hair when wet or dry. Many years ago I used to always use a blow dryer to blow dry my hair. And even when I had a reminder from Facebook and saw a old Youtube video over 3 years ago, I can see the difference to now. Which is a improvement and to see my hair is more healthier now. So I would say try to use minimum heat on your hair and if you can NO HEAT.

DETANGLING MY HAIR

I have implemented a new technique to detangle my hair before I wash it, especially how it can be hard to detangle from a braidout or twistout hairstyle. I detangle my hair under running water with a wide tooth comb and my fingers. I do this in my kitchen sink to be exactly as both hot and cold water run through one tap. Which makes life easier for me and my back and regulating the water temperature. By doing this I experience less hair breakage and my hair is saturated under the running water so it is easier to detangle. I have been doing this since the beginning of 2020.

Short hair

AYURVEDIC POWDER

Used to improve the health and strength of hair, which leads to hair growth. I use these powders Fenugreek seed powder, Hibiscus powder, and Aloe vera powder. But I will advise you do you research on Ayurvedic powders before you use them in your hair. And I will do future posts about these powders in the future about how beneficial they are for hair.

TRIMMING

I trim my hair when needed, for example when my hair was very hard to comb through because my ends was not in the best condition, due to neglect. When I was also experiencing bad breakage because my ends was weak. As we know our ends are the weakest part of the hair and have been through a lot, so sometimes you have to let them go.

PROTECTIVE STYLES

Keep my hair in protectives styles like single twists and braids. Also in flat twists and cornrows styles. So I am not doing much with my hair day to day. So less manipulation to my hair.

MY ENDS

Looking after my ends, keeping them tucked in if I can and moisturised when needed. And also try not to fidget with your ends too much.

ROSE WATER

I have been using Rose water in my hair for over 1 year. Rose water is made from distilled water and Rose petals. Distilled water is more cleaner than tap water. Rose water has a neutral ph balance. And has natural antiseptic properties. Can also reduce dandruff and aids in treating damaged hair. I use it in my spray bottle when I refresh and moisturise my hair in-between wash days. And know it is better to use in my hair compare to tap water as I live in a hard water area which can cause calcium buildup on hair which is not good if used on my hair. I still use tap water to wash my hair.

Blue hair

OILS

You might be surprised about this, I went from oiling my scalp regular to not very much nowadays. I add the preferred oil I use to my spray bottle with the Rose water and other ingredients. I might add oil straight to my scalp on wash days, during styling but that is it. Some people say oiling your scalp is good or not good, I say it depends on the individual preference and hair.

HAVING A GOOD HAIRCARE ROUTINE

This is a must to have healthy hair, from how regular you wash your hair to how you style your hair and products you use. And making sure you are using the right products and using them properly. And having a routine that suits yourself. My hair routine includes deep conditioning my hair every wash day and moisturising my hair regular with the hair products I use and Rose water.

USING THE RIGHT HAIR PRODUCTS

Including knowing what products work for my hair, and ingredients that my hair likes and work good in my hair. I understand my hair gets dry regular so I know I have to re-moisturise it regular. Ingredients to avoid that dry out the hair, and natural ingredients that are good for the hair.

COMBING MY HAIR

My theory is, is that I don’t need to comb my hair everyday, especially if it is in a protective hairstyle. This has helped it to grow. Like I have said earlier, if you are not doing too much with your hair, you are giving your hair more chance to get stronger to grow.

SLEEPING

It is best to sleep in a satin bonnet or if not a satin bonnet a satin pillowcase. I have both but mainly sleep in a satin bonnet and the satin pillowcase is good for the summer for the hot nights when you don’t want anything on your head. The satin material helps to keep the moisture on your hair, compared to a cotton material which will absorb the moisture out and will make your hair dry.

Purple Satin bonnet

Indicating all these simple steps seem easy, but it is a continuous routine. And keeping them up to see desired results.

My hair growth was unexpected this year, and to be honest there has only been a few changes in my hair routine that I can link to the growth. But I know to keep up the things I am doing to get to my hair growth goal. Even when I am trying out new products, I will continue to use Rose water in my hair, and if it is in new hair products I use this is a plus. New discovery FLORACURL HAIR MIST has Rose water in it, so very happy about this. Well distilled water and Rose flower water.
