So being that I am a natural, and have been for many many years. And when I say a natural, I mean having natural hair. So I wanted to share some tips on how to retain length on natural hair.
TRIMMING HAIR
Trim your hair less, I would say only trim your hair if necessary.
HAIR ENDS
Look after the ends of your hair. Yes don’t forget the ends of your hair, they need caring too. Don’t forget to moisturise your ends, and do this regular too.
DETANGLING HAIR
Detangle your hair when it is damp. It is best to detangle your hair when it is damp or saturated with water based hair products, as it makes the detangling process much more easier. And less hair breakage. As to if you detangle your hair when it is dry, as you will experience more breakage. Which is something you don’t want.
STYLING HAIR
I have been Plaits or Twist both of these styles are great styles to do on your hair, and prevents you from combing your hair regular everyday if it was left out.
PROTECTIVE HAIRSTYLES
Protective hairstyles, caution protectives styles are only good when you are maintaining looking after your hair while it is in these styles. And keeping the protective style in your hair for a reasonable amount of time. And be careful how you manipulate your hair in the particular hairstyle to.
SLEEPING
Sleeping in a satin hair bonnet – This is a must, or even a satin pillowcase is good. As the satin material helps to keep the moisture in your hair, than to absorb it like cotton material does.
TUCK IN YOUR HAIR ENDS
Tuck your ends in, this stops you from fidgeting with your ends and they are just left alone, to be.
MOISTURISATION FOR YOUR HAIR
Moisture your hair regular, A good moisturisation routine is key for your hair inbetween wash days. Use products your hair likes.
BEWARE OF THIS
Try not to keep your hair in a stretched style for long periods of time – this may have a determental effect on your hair and you may eventually lose the natural hair curl pattern. And long periods of pulling your hair in styles like ponytails, can lead to breakage and hair loss. If you feel pain loosen your hair style, this is a indicator.
USING HEAT ON YOUR HAIR
Avoid using heat constantly in your hair – As we know too much heat on hair is not good. It dries the hair out more, and leads to hair being more brittle and breaking.
USING A COMB ON YOUR HAIR
Comb your hair only when you need to. Be careful combing your ends.
I asked this question on my Instagram stories

Lol I was thinking more about the traveling bonnets… as in you go to bed and wake up to find that it walked it’s way as far as the kitchen. My sisters can’t keep the bonnets on the whole night (probably because of how they sleep).

See this used to happen to me with headscarfs. So far satin bonnets stay on my head all night. But I do have a big head, lol

Nice tips. I follow most of these however I need a satin pillowcase or cap. Also, I am so guilty of using the same hairstyle pulled back in a bun most the time and my edges are dwindling. I’ll have to try twists or something else to save my ends! Thanks for sharing.
